Leola, PA – Dart Container Corporation is taking raw materials usually used to make clear plastic cups and donating them to the production of much-needed personal protective equipment for the medical community.

Dart’s Leola, PA, manufacturing facility – the company’s largest at 1,650 employees – recently donated 20 1,500-pound rolls of plastic sheeting to Trekboxx, a California company that converted its operations from making vehicle storage systems to medical face shields. The Leola plant also donated rolls to a Pennsylvania sign company that’s making face shields.

Using the same sheeting, Leola employees even designed their own face shield and manufactured a limited number for Dart employees who need an extra layer protection.

“Dart’s Leola employees are honored to assist our healthcare heroes on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Plant Manager Kevin Forrester. “It’s a great privilege to be able to support the rapid development and production of face shields by donating materials.”

The US Department of Homeland Security has identified the food & beverage packaging industry as “essential critical infrastructure” during the COVID-19 pandemic, as has Pennsylvania. Dart products help other essential industries keep food and drinks sanitary and people safe during this unprecedented pandemic.

“As an essential business, we’re glad we can continue to support our customers by providing Dart products for restaurants, schools, healthcare facilities, foodservice distributors, grocery stores, correctional facilities, and in the home,” Forrester said. “We thank all those who are working tirelessly to care for COVID-19 patients and the support staff who keep the hospitals running. We’re so grateful for their service to our communities during this unprecedented health crisis.”

Food & beverage packaging manufacturer Dart Container Corporation, based in Mason, Michigan, has approximately 14,500 employees at more than 40 locations worldwide. Dart offers more than 3,000 individual-use packaging products, including the SOLO brand, that are used around the world to keep food and drink sanitary and safe. Dart has long been the industry leader in providing education and recycling options for consumers. While our products give people the freedom to enjoy their food and drinks wherever they are, we also know there are consequences for that freedom so we accept our responsibility by taking leadership and action on initiatives to reduce the impact our products have on our neighborhoods and our planet.
