Dart congratulates 2019 recipient of college football's premier community service award

Western Michigan University quarterback Jon Wassink recognized for dedication on and off the field

 

Dart congratulates Western Michigan University quarterback Jon Wassink on his selection as the 2019 recipient of The Wuerffel Trophy—college football's premier award for community service.

 

Dart has served for the last four years as a corporate partner for the award, which was established by 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida and honors college athletes who’ve made significant contributions on and off the field.

 

“Dart is proud to support the Wuerffel Trophy because its criteria closely align with our commitment to giving back to local communities and encouraging volunteerism," said Kevin Myers, Dart's Vice President-Sales/Consumer Products Division. “We join the selection committee in saluting Jon on his devotion to supporting youth and others in his community.”

 

Wassink, a senior from Grand Rapids, MI, is a three-year starter for the Broncos who also carries a 3.95 grade-point average in WMU’s Haworth College of Business. He’s been named two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference, a two-time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and been included on the Dean's List every semester he’s been on campus.

For the last four years, he’s volunteered to serve as a Bronco Buddy mentor at the Tree of Life school, lead weekly Bible studies for Fellowship of Christian Athletes and feed the homeless in Kalamazoo. He also serves as a regular mentor at Lake Elementary School and is a frequent visitor to Bronson Children’s Hospital. In a 2016 mission trip to the Domincan Republic, he helped build a basketball court and repair a bridge for a small community of about 100 people.
