For the seventh consecutive year, Dart volunteers in American River Clean Up; collecting litter from the American River Parkway
SACRAMENTO, CA – For the seventh consecutive year, with the help of Dart Container’s Lodi manufacturing facility employees, friends and family, volunteers collected 21,000 pounds of litter from the American River Parkway during the Annual Great American River Clean Up.
“Dart Container is committed to keeping our waterways beautiful and free of litter, and are proud that our employees share in that commitment,” said Michael Westerfield, Director of Recycling for Dart Container. “We’re honored to volunteer for the American River Clean Up for the seventh year and know I speak for all of us when I say that Dart is looking forward to participating for many years to come.”
On Saturday, September 20, employees from Dart’s Lodi manufacturing facility joined nearly 1,500 volunteers to pick up litter and debris from the American River Parkway, enhancing 25 sites over a 23-mile stretch of the river. During this time, Dart collected all #6 foam (often mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam) for processing. This #6 foam included cups, plates, and protective packaging foam, which is often used to protect electronics items like televisions and computers.
Dart employees who participated in the Great American River Clean Up also demonstrated how foam #6 products are recycled. Foam stamped with the chasing arrows triangle with the number six in the middle is a thermoplastic and can be recycled repeatedly. Popular products made with this material include picture frames and crown molding.
