Recently, the University of California, Davis, partnered with Dart Container Corporation for a foam packaging recycling drive. Often mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam, a trademark of Dow, the material is widely used to package many items that students bring to school including televisions and other electronics. The effort resulted in half a truckload being collected. The event was the school’s sixth annual recycling drive and took place as freshmen students moved in for the school year.

The New York State Supreme Court today overturned Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia’s decision to ban foam foodservice items, clearing the way for the City to embrace a recycling program that would cover 100 percent of polystyrene products and generate new revenue for the City.

(New York, NY) – Dart Container Corporation joined with the Restaurant Action Alliance NYC, members of the recycling industry, and the City’s restaurant owners today in filing a lawsuit seeking to overturn the City’s ban on foam foodservice items. Mayor Bill de Blasio, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and DSNY Commissioner Kathryn Garcia are named as respondents in the petition, which was filed against the Commissioner’s erroneous determination that foam cannot be recycled. The determination flagrantly violated Local Law 142 as well as sound environmental and economic policy and plain common sense.

A coalition including the Restaurant Action Alliance and Dart Container Corp. contends the ban Mayor de Blasio wants to start July 1 is illegal because the law requires the city to recycle such products, but Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia ruled arbitrarily that soft foam containers cannot be recycled.

For the fifth consecutive year, Dart is participating in Michigan’s Adopt-A-Highway program Mason, Michigan – Dart Container has announced that through their participation in Michigan’s Adopt-A-Highway program, enough litter to fill 64 trash bags has been cleaned from Michigan’s Highway 127. Dart volunteers, including employees, friends, and family donated their time to this very important cause.

Plant City, FL — Dart Container Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of foam cups, has announced plans to expand its existing presence in eastern Hillsborough County with the construction of a 400,000 square foot warehouse in Plant City. Dart is investing $14 million in the project, and up to two dozen new jobs are expected to result from the expansion.

Leola, PA — Dart Container today was joined by city and community leaders for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate Dart’s landfill gas to energy cogeneration project. The initiative enables Dart to use gas recovered from Lanchester and Conestoga municipal landfills as a source of renewable energy to produce electricity, boiler fuel and steam.

Lansing, MI — The Michigan Economic Development Corporation today announced Michigan Strategic Fund approval of a $3 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the expansion of Dart Container Corporation’s operations in Mason. The expansion will generate up to $47 million in new private investment and add a projected 325 new jobs.

Highland Park, Illinois — Highland Park city leaders today were joined by local partners to announce the results of community foam collection efforts. Since the program launched in 2011, the Highland Park community has dropped off foam products at the city’s collection site resulting in over 4,417 pounds of foam collected and recycled.

Dart Container Corporation is pleased that its 2012 donation of five million disposable cups to the American Red Cross is supporting disaster services such as the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. DCC announced its second five-year product donation commitment to the ARC in January. "The free foam cups we provide not only help to lower the Red Cross's operational costs, but, most importantly, allow Red Cross staff and volunteers to efficiently provide cold and hot beverages to disaster victims and blood donors," said Jim Lammers, DCC’s Executive Vice President of Administration and General Counsel.

Grand Rapids, Michigan — On Halloween, as part of The Geek Group’s (TGG) ‘Computers, not Candy’ program, TGG donated 100 re-purposed laptops to economically disadvantaged students enrolled in the Grand Rapids Area Pre-college Engineering Program/Engineering and Biomedical School. These students specifically enrolled in the program because of their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), making them perfect candidates for the laptops.

Brasbar, which has approximately 100 employees, is located in Pindamonhangaba, in the state of Sao Paulo midway between Rio de Janeiro and the city of Sao Paulo.
